Democracy adn Governance/Civil Society Specialist Needed

World Learning is seeking a Democracy & Governance/Civil Society Specialistfor the USAID/World Learning Religious and Social Pluralism, Equity andTolerance (RESPECT) project.

This is a new five-year project currently beinglaunched by World Learning.
Candidates must state in their cover letter how their strengths and skills,including education, prior work experience, inter-personal skills, technicalskills, knowledge of the area of work, knowledge of USAID policies andregulations and their capabilities to effectively launch and implement theprogram make them the best candidate.

Fluency in written and spoken Englishand Bahasa Indonesian is a plus. Qualified Indonesian nationals are stronglyencouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will provide technical and programmatic assistanceto the RESPECT project. RESPECT promotes pluralism, religious diversity,and the rights of women and minority groups. The project will partner withcommunity, faith-based, non-governmental organizations, governmentinstitutions, private sector and mass media organizations to achieve theprogram objectives.

The candidate should have in-depth knowledge of and a proven track record inworking successfully with the above, host country counterparts, Ministries,and multi-lateral organizations.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Overseeing program development and logistics for all technicalcomponents of the program.- Assisting in providing, coordinating or arranging all technicalassistance and administrative support activities under the project.

- Assisting in supervising and mentoring technical and management staff.

- Coordinating relationships with civil society organizations andgovernment institutions on technical matters.

- Developing solicitations for program bids.


QUALIFICATIONS:

- A minimum of 7 years of experience in democracy and governanceincluding decentralization, public-private dialogue, policy reform, humanrights protection, advocacy, policy/legislative change, civic education,network and coalition building, capacity building of civil societyorganizations, media and/or gender.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills.

- Strong financial management and program management experience.

- Familiarity with donor, in particular, USAID requirements.

- Demonstrated track record in establishing systems and program start-upunder limited time constraints and overseeing multiple program areassimultaneously.

- Master's Degree or equivalent in international development, political orsocial science or related field preferred.

- Prior experience working in Indonesia preferred.

- Extensive work with Muslims and Muslim organizations.

- Extensive work in gender related issues.
